Sliding Mechanism For Claw Machine
Date
November 2021
Objective:
Designing and modeling a mechanical system that has a movable function Our team chose to design a claw machine, a machine found in arcades where you would pay to try to grab a prize with a mechanical arm controlled by a joystick. In this project, I was instructed to design a sliding mechanism that would allow the claw to move forward and backward as well as left and right.
Process:
Began first by communicating with a colleague who designed the body of the machine to meet the required dimensions. Once I obtained those dimensions I designed a rod that would allow the bearing to attach to allow sliding motion in X and Y directions. I then created a frame that would include additional rods that would allow forward and backward motion. All of these were attached. Lastly, a motor block would attack the rods moving forward and backward where the claw would be placed to allow upward and downward motion. In total six parts were created and I then mated them together in SolidWorks assembly.
Result:
A modeled claw machine that had movement from left-right, up and down, and forward and backward. The design was graded with an emphasis on how realistic our mechanical system was which our team did great in.
